AWS Partnership: Energy Sector Public Reference

A Global Energy provider wanted to get rid of their expensive and slow moving internal infrastructure and migrate their complete Customer Portal to the AWS cloud. The term Customer Portal refers to the collective set of systems they use to interact with their customers (e.g. BtC, BtB, partners, door to door sales people) as well as the public. This initiative is a combination of lift and shift, refactor and replatform. Each application was analysed to determine what kind of migration we had to apply.

  • Provide an IT solution that actively enables the business strategy. This includes increasing organizational agility, promoting innovation and enabling new digital revenue streams.
  • Provide the best possible solution for the company globally.
  • Optimize the resources ‘required to run and build’ the solution.

Outcome

The end result is that TBSCG successfully migrated all the web systems such as Web servers, Adobe AEM instances, Hadoop, SSO systems and many others to the AWS Cloud using products such as Amazon Business API, Amazon Lambda, Amazon Route 53 and Amazon Cloudfront. This was a dramatic change with a high focus on automation leading to serverless, autoscaling, performing globally distributed and highly available business services to deliver the new customer portal. The qualitive, quantitative and short term benefits from the migration were:

  • OPEX cost reduction
  • New initiatives, programs or projects could then be launched in days and consume data easily, with no complex and long learning curve for the teams
  • Select the best-in-class cloud solutions and rely mainly on SaaS and PaaS
  • Make business activities enabled by IT efficiency, and not slowed down by IT constraint
