AWS Partnership: British Airlines Lift and Shift

A British airline operator is in the process of migrating its’ marketing to Adobe Experience Manager and the AWS cloud. As the project will run for several years and there are a lot of legacy applications re-platforming which are not considered as a high priority, TBSCG proposed to lift and shift a couple of applications to AWS.

Some applications were deployed before 2008 and were still running on Windows 2008 version. Some of the physical servers were running for many years without interruption and were lacking resources (memory and space), as well as many OS updates. This was a tremendous risk for the IT department.

TBSCG designed a new and simple infrastructure based on AWS services which will allow the customer to:

  • 80% reduction in hosting costs
  • update and patch the OS more readily, this will ensure a safer and more modern environment
  • be more flexible in terms of resources, disk and memory can easily be extended without having to order new physical material and suffer from a downtime of the application
  • a steady and highly available environment which is higher performing, more scalable and more reliable.
  • benefit from a modern devops toolset which will be used for releases, testing and monitoring

The end result is that these legacy applications are now running in the AWS cloud and the OPEX costs were reduced by 80% (including the cloud migration project costs). This allows the customer is reduce its’ costs and the risks related to the legacy applications whilst re-platforming its’ Digital Experience Platform to a more modern toolset.
