Belgacom uCMS Project
The problem
Belgacom had a 8 years old Interwoven implementation to manage their websites. Both content and technical maintenance were hard to deal with, and the system was not expandable anymore.
Also, Belgacom acquired 100% of their mobile subsidiary called Proximus, and thus CMS of both companied had to be unified.
Solution
TBSCG, in a partnership with LBi Belgium, delivered an integrated solution with an emphasis on user friendliness, website performance, segregation of concerns, and expandability.
Description
This project consisted in a TeamSite 6.7.2 upgrade, and also a LiveSite 3.1 implementation to replace a custom-made Java run-time.
The following main features were in scope :
- Total separation between griding, skinning and content. This allows different roles – webmaster, designer, content producer – to work on the same site at the same time without conflicting with each other.
- Thanks do dynamic media asset web rendering using a unique LiveSiteMediaBin connector, images are just selected by content managers in a (MediaBin) gallery and … that’s it. No matter how many web derivatives of this image will be needed on a page, transformations are totally transparent to content managers.
- We have put in a place a generic XSLT transformation in Live Site components to merge XHTML templates – created by web integrators – with XML content – created by content managers through user-friendly interfaces. This removed a unnecessary complexity in LiveSite components and reduced dramatically component development time.
- The new website is based on CSS 3 and HTML 5, making the generated HTML incredibly clean and light.
