There’s no doubt about it - a website or email service is totally useless unless hosted in a professional and reliable way. That’s where Michał Adamczyk comes into his own.
Michał, you are responsible for TBSCG’s hosting solutions. What type of services do you provide for clients?
We don’t do “normal” projects like the other departments at TBSCG. We focus on setting up new environments and guaranteeing the high availability of existing solutions.
We provide Windows/Linux Web hosting for sites written in ASP.NET, PHP, and Python. These sites can be connected to a MySQL, MSSQL or Postgresql database.
We can also provide customized solutions for clients if required.
Alongside that, we host Exchange email accounts and provide online support for our Exchange clients.
Within TBSCG, we ensure that all computing and networking systems (Windows and Linux systems) are working correctly, which may be why I’ve earned the nickname “SysAdmin”!
What skills does your job require?
Like my colleagues (I assume!), I would say that you have to be able to work under pressure, as clients are never happy about their websites being down or their email systems being out of action.
You consequently have to make quick decisions, which means you need extensive knowledge in the computing and networking fields.
What were your main achievements in 2010?
We relocated the Polish branch and we rolled-out OpenSource solutions in two other branches. That was a huge challenge!
We also helped Unite Students resolve their network problems - our expertise can also result in us doing some consulting for our clients.
What projects do you have planned for the near future?
We are currently upgrading our OS server to the latest version. At the same time, we are also upgrading our email infrastructure from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010.
One major project is the virtualization of our IT environment. This will allow us to better differentiate our services, and will help us deliver an even more reliable and secure service.
Last but not least, we are building a hosting solution for SiteCore CMS.
