Read how a booking engine and a web application have been seamlessly integrated, thus providing a user-friendly experience.
The problem
UNITE is the UK’s leading provider of student accommodation, managing scores of properties all around the country. However, their website and booking engine were totally separate tools, resulting in a poor user experience.
The solution
TBSCG installed a new front-end rendering engine – LiveSite, and then integrated the booking engine into the rendering engine itself.
Description
The web application and the booking engine are fully integrated in the website’s pages, but are two completely separate applications, with totally different lifecycles and totally different development cycles:
- The web application provides information on the different cities and the various properties available;
- The booking engine provides information on availability and price, as well as handling transactions.
An Application Virtualization Layer (AVL) was developed in Java within the LiveSite run-time environment. As a result of TBSCG’s innovative approach, all of UNITE’s business applications are now an integral part of the website’s pages, making for a transparent and user-friendly experience.
